Hi all! I'm pretty new to CM fandom. I've been poking around the black hole that is fanficition.net for about a month with limited success. I've come to you guys lookin' for some awesome fics. This is a long-ish post so I've put it under a cut to not clog the page.
As the subject line suggests, I like the women of CM, although Prentiss edges everyone out as my favourite. I'm looking for any great, awesome, well-written, and preferably long fics that focus on any combination of the ladies kicking butt, taking names, and being awesome-ness personified (I would love some long, actiony/adventure, agnsty tome that's just the ladies in some kind of peril and saving themselves, but I doubt it exists). Femslash is fine, general friendship is fine. AU is fine (but not the kind of AU that's the characters in high school, or the Old West, or Roman times, or whatever). Not a fan of crossovers. Any rating is fine.
I prefer plot/event driven fics, but love a good character study, too. I'm partial to the angst, the h/c, the dark, the twisty, and the Not Nice - with the cavet that the author addresses the mental/emotional/physical fallout and longterm side effects of the dark and twisty. For me there's nothing more unsatisfying than wading through 80,000+ words of glorious angst and whump only to have the person escape/be rescused and be all happy, sunshine and roses, the world's perfect in the final scene. I love reading the fallout as much or more than the actual angsty whump.
I also enjoy a good... disability fic, I guess it's generally called? When well written I'm fascinated to read about physical, take charge, independent, cop-ish characters dealing with a permanent injury - loss of limb or sense, brain injury, etc. Or any fics that have people getting hurt and dealing with it - ie, the recovery is a significant part of the story, not just a scene in the hospital and a scene back at work and now everything's peachy.
The main thing I don't want - secret children fics. Oh, how many I have encountered. They come in two types. The "I've secretly had a child all this time no one knew about and some contrived fic events leads to his/her revelation to the team" and the "I've returned after a multi-year absence with a child in tow who was fathered by Hotch/Morgan/Reid/Rossi and no one knew I was pregnant, extra gag and eye roll points if it resulted from a one-night stand."
Pretty much, I want the best of the best of CM fandom that features the ladies (and if it's Prentiss all the better). I've read some good fics but have yet to find the amazing, blow me away stories.
All that said, if you know of any truly awesome fic that everyone simply must read, the "defining CM fics" as it were, let me know!
